 Made-in-japan Waribashi

What Kind of Image Do You Have of Waribashi (Disposable Chopsticks)?
Many people tend to associate waribashi with environmental destruction.
However, that is not necessarily the case.
In particular, domestically produced waribashi in Japan are actually environmentally friendly and align with the goals of eco-conscious living and the SDGs.
They are made either from trees that are selectively cut down during thinning (kanbatsu)—a forest management practice that removes overcrowded trees to allow others to grow—or from leftover wood produced when logs are processed into building materials.
If forests are not properly maintained through thinning and other care, it can lead to serious problems such as wind and flood damage, pollen-related allergies, and an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.
In Japan, many forests have been left untended for years, and the importance of early forest maintenance is being increasingly emphasized.
By choosing to use Japanese-made waribashi, you are helping to support the revitalization and sustainable management of Japan’s forests. 🌿
